It looks better on paper, I swear. Scanner ate up so many of the nuances and shading in the coloring. Now it looks rather...ugly.

And I'm sorry. Please shoot me. I too, have fallen for the overdone stereotype of creating an Alice in Wonderland design//collection. I never thought I would ever do this but...I do have a good excuse.

This year for costume design UIL, the theme is....Alice in Wonderland but it also has to be costume from a specific era, and there has to be 5 pieces total, with one male and one female costume designed and everything else of my choice. No inspiration can be taken from the original book illustrations for Alice in Wonderland, nor from the Tim Burton movie. So, with my excuse, I've drawn my 5 costumes.

I chose the 1700's with the emphasis on French style clothing of this time. Why the 1700's? Because doing the Victorian era is cliche. Also, Alice in Wonderland is such a wonderous book, it's absurd and over the top, mind boggling even now. So why not an era of the extreme? How about the incredible dress widths? The towering wigs? Colors diverse as macarons? And of course, Marie Antoinette?

The Queen of Hearts. Always pictured her as a dominatrix, someone in control, the tyrant. Hence the masculine outfit loosely based off French military uniforms. Didn't want to overdo the heart motif. Hope you can still tell who she is.

Please please please, my designs. Don't touch. Nothing is 100% complete, but this is what I am currently satisfied with.

I love the asymmetry of this piece and I also love how it doesn't look so costume-y and overdone. Although the Queen of Hearts has been 'overdone' (still love looking at this stuff regardless!), I think you added your own unique twist and made the concept completely original. I would love to see this made!
