Though a Darker Glass

Description

"We live in the world, and there's plenty of things you can find inspiration in. Look around you, and you'll see plenty. We want you to design a formal/haute couture/concept dress to "The World Around You", may it be what you enjoy or dislike most about the world, or how you perceive the world, anything!"

Another submission to the Designers Nexus contest...

The world to me, is a darker place, something with double meaning. Everything is supposedly in one way, black and white, straight, parallel and never touching. Like the concepts of right and wrong, good and bad. Yet even with these concepts that are driven into us since we were young, there isn't such thing as pure black or white, life isn't that easy. So although we may have "black and white" choices, there are so many moral, emotional and such other factors, that these clearly defined lines start to blur and layer over one another.
((Hence, the stripes all over the dress, with layer upon layer of stripes, lace and ruffles, because the world is filled wiht exceptions, exclusions, and "special cases"))

The dress is inspired by Alice in Wonderland-the pinafore, that special shade of blue, etc, Alice. Only, it's my version of the story: The world is a fascinating place, a dark paradox. What we learn in the classroom is not the way the world works, there is always a double meaning life- like different sides of a coin. So although, yes the dress is still childish, innocence isn't quite there anymore because the world is a tainted wonderland in itself.

Lastly, the feathers. Life itself is as fleeting and the world moves faster and faster. Today everything is instantaneous. It's life on the fast track. So for me, the world moves so quickly, that it's like a bird. One second, it's on a fence, and then for no reason, just disappears into the sky and you can never quite catch it....

I apologize the incredibly lenghty description. I'll just shut my trap and let you look at it. XD

I love this <3 I think it'd be really awesome if the blues were actually jean fabrics and the stripes were cotton, then the fringe could be a mix of tulle and lace. It would be really frickin' adorable, though I'd probably drop the princess sleeves off to make it more casual.
